Smocking and painting on fabric: Moorea’s textile expertise
At Creativ Moorea, dresses are created using island textile expertise that combines smocking techniques and painting on cotton voile. Smocking, the process of gathering fabric by hand on the bodice, gives each dress its natural shape and support without underwire.
The cotton voile captures the light of the tropics like no other fabric, light, supple, and alive in the wind. The floral patterns are then hand-painted by the artisan, with generous swathes of color and stark contrasts between the deep blue of the lagoon and the reds and oranges of the tiare and hibiscus, without any mechanical intervention.
This is why no two dresses of the same model will ever be completely identical. It is precisely what sets them apart from ordinary boutique dresses and makes them unique pieces of tropical fashion.
Children also have their own collection, with Polynesian dresses designed in the same spirit, using the same colors and the same workshop.
Hand-painted artisanal Polynesian dress: smocking technique and floral motifs
- Material: cotton voile, smocking technique on the bodice
- As the cotton voile is transparent, a lining is required underneath
- Washing: 30°C, machine wash only, do not hand wash
- Drying: air dry or very gentle cycle
The colors are applied by hand and the colors displayed on screen may vary depending on the settings. What you receive may differ slightly from the photograph, and from one dress to another within the same color range: this is the signature of a handmade creation, never a flaw.
To complete a cohesive Polynesian beach look, French Polynesian mother-of-pearl jewelry pairs naturally with these dresses, sharing the same origin and spirit.
