More than decor – a Polynesian heritage object
The umete was traditionally used to serve food during shared moments, a symbol of gathering, generosity, and community. Today, it works beautifully as a centerpiece on a dining table, a console statement, or a sculptural object styled on a shelf or sideboard.
It’s functional if you want it to be. But most of all, it’s an object with identity, and that’s what makes it so captivating.
Materials: Tou wood & coconut fiber
Tou wood is known across the islands for its density, durability, and deep, warm grain. The coconut fiber brings contrast and an organic finish that feels grounded and natural.
No two pieces are identical. The grain, tone, and small variations are part of what makes a true artisanal umete.

Styling tip
Keep it simple: place it on a wood or stone surface and let the light do the rest. Under warm, angled lighting, the Tou grain and coconut texture become incredibly rich (and the piece instantly feels “gallery”).
