Hand-Painted Tahitian Pareo ‘Aute ‘Ura

Fuchsia, red, bright green, pure white. Some beachwear whispers, this one speaks loudly. On this Tahitian sarong, the large red hibiscus takes center stage, surrounded by generous leaves and tiare flowers that balance the overall design.

It’s the kind of island textile piece that you spot from afar on the beach, worn with the quiet confidence of the women of Moorea who have never been afraid of color.

In the same vibrant vein, the hand-painted beach dresses in the collection share this same chromatic intensity.

‘Aute, in Reo Tahiti, means hibiscus. ‘Ura means red, the color of fire, passion, and ceremonies. This hand-painted veil bears this name because it leaves no doubt as to what it celebrates: the Polynesian flower in its most direct, assertive form.

Moorea red hibiscus on cotton voile

Hand-painted in Moorea, French Polynesia, directly onto soft cotton voile, without templates or reproductions. Each shade of red on the petals is applied freely, with the same patience found in Tahitian tikis stone carved, also carved from raw materials from Moorea.
