Technical data – Tahitian Mabe Pearl
The Tahitian Mabé Pearl is a hemispherical pearl. Unlike round pearls, which form inside the mollusk’s body, it develops against the inside surface of the shell. A nucleus is placed on this surface and the oyster gradually deposits layers of mother-of-pearl, creating a domed shape. After harvesting, the mother-of-pearl part is cut out and then reinforced (resin base) before being mounted in jewelry.
