Hand-Painted Tahitian Manava Fenua Pareo

37,00

This warm brown background, almost ochre, is that of the volcanic soil of Moorea, the bark of the trees lining the paths, the rocks that have been heated by the sun all day long. On this Tahitian pareo, the yellow and red hibiscus flowers do not seek to impose themselves.

Two discreet and balanced bouquets, placed there as if on the ground by someone who knows the vegetation of the Polynesian archipelago well. This type of original beachwear stands out precisely because it is unlike anything else, worn with the same artisanal sensibility as the lizard tapa of Moorea, where each pattern tells the story of a territory.

Manava Fenua, in reo tahiti, means welcome to the land. Manava, the breath of life that we offer as a welcome. Fenua, the land, the native country, a word that Polynesians carry in their hearts as a sense of belonging.

This Tahitian pareo bears this name because its brown background belongs to the land before it belongs to the sea.

The land of Moorea painted on cotton fabric

Hand-painted in Moorea, French Polynesia, directly onto soft cotton voile, without a template.

The two symmetrical bouquets are freely traced, with the natural regularity of artisans who have been repeating the same gesture for years, as in the coconut grater carved from wood, crafted in French Polynesia, where each piece bears the mark of the hand that made it.

Slight variations in color or tracing may exist from one piece to another.
